VDO are a German company who supplied instrument panels to VAG.
In the 1980s they built this one. Yes, just the one. It has something of the Other about it.

That's the one, or one of them. There were two, one intended for show so it probably got the special instrument cluster.
The blue car had two manual gearboxes, the later red one got a pair of automatic ones which was found to be better as the torque converters were more forgiving of slightly mismatched engines.
